Atmosphere of fire, race indecisive, suspense and emotion: the 2019 American Grand Prix has lived up to its worldwide reputation.
Bélina Josselyn won the 98th Grand Prix d’Amérique on Sunday, January 27 at Vincennes Hippodrome in Paris. Jean-Michel Bazire, driver and trainer of the mare, made his mark on the 2019 World Championship of Trot Attelé. Looking Superb, second, is also developed by the professional Sarthe, as well as Davidson du Pont, fourth. Readly Express, the third-ranked defending champion, stopped “JMB” from treading the podium in “Amérique” with his three protégés at the start. The uncertain outcome and the tight finish have given the public a splendid competition. Propulsion, third in 2018, finished fifth, ahead of Bold Eagle, winner in 2016 and 2017, sixth this year.
Jean-Michel Bazire, who won a 20th Sulky d’Or (French Drivers’ Champion) in 2018, won a fourth American Grand Prix as a driver and a second as a coach. It has been 20 years since a mare won the prestigious tournament. Moni Maker is the last to win, in 1999, driven by a certain Jean-Michel Bazire. Belina Josselyn signs the 20th victory of her career.
